Livonia to the Land of Lincoln...

We had a nice first day of our vacation. The 2006 Inferno Red Dodge Caravan rolled out of the driveway at 11:15AM under cloudy and threatening skies. Thankfully, it never rained and we ended up making good time. Only 4 quick stops: 1 for lunch, 1 to pee, 1 at the Indiana border for a picture, and 1 for a splash and go at the Shell station. We pulled into the Hampton Inn in Ottawa, Illinois at around 4PM. Traffic around Chicago was pretty bad, lots of construction. Other than that it was smooth sailing. The hotel is nice and we tried the indoor heated pool as soon we checked in. After swimming we walked to the nearby Cracker Barrel for dinner. Afterwards, Justin and John went into town in search of some ice cream while Jennifer and Joshua stayed at the hotel watching TV. Ottawa is a historic town that was the site of a famous Lincoln/Douglas debate on August 21st, 1858. There's a nice statue depicting the event in the park downtown and a huge mural on one of the old buildings. We took a few pictures and headed back. Early to bed tonight...tomorrow we're up early for a long day of driving across the middle of the country.

Justin and Josh are keeping track of different license plates we spot. Today we saw: Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee, Arizona, Maine, Texas, Ohio, Iowa, Idaho, Nebraska, Kentucky, California, Virginia, Maryland, Colorado, Missouri, Ontario Canada.
